Atrae Partners with bitgrit to Launch a New AI Competition Online

Japanese startups Atrae and bitgrit partner for an online competition, inviting data scientists from around the world to submit their optimization models for a professional matching app

It is with great pleasure that we announce a brand new AI competition on our platform that starts today, August 24. This competition, titled #SwipeToSuccess, was made in close partnership with Atrae, Inc., fellow Japanese startup and the creators of a professional networking app called yenta.

Atrae first launched the yenta app in Japan four years ago in 2016, and its domestic success motivated them to release an English version of the app in India with special focus on bringing together professionals in the IT space.

For this competition, we’re asking our bitgrit community of over 25,000 data scientists around the globe to build a machine learning model to improve yenta’s profile recommendation algorithm. To do so, they will predict the level of compatibility of a pair of users based on data from their profiles (all anonymized, of course!).

The dataset includes many values you can expect from a professional networking app, including:

  • Users’ educational backgrounds
  • Users’ work experience
  • Vectorized user self-introductions
  • Professional skills of each user
  • Reasons why users downloaded the app
  • User-to-user past interactions including swipes and reviews

*Note: All of these values will be anonymized to protect private user information, but are still able to be processed to create an optimized matching algorithm by our participants!

The goal of the competition is to predict whether two profiles will match with each other or not, and further, what the quality of the match will be. Each two profiles are assigned or predicted a value based on the following qualifications:

0 = Profiles A and B don’t match

1 = Profiles A and B match but there is no review information

2 = Profiles A and B match and Profile A gave Profile B a bad review after connecting

3 = Profiles A and B match and Profile A gave Profile B a good review after connecting

Top submissions will be used to optimize Atrae’s matching algorithm and smoothly bring together like-minded professionals, and for five of our most capable winners there will also be cash prizes totalling US$10,000.

The prize breakdown is:

  • 1st place: US$5,000
  • 2nd place: US$3,000
  • 3rd place: US$1,000
  • 4th place: US$600
  • 5th place: US$400

The #SwipeToSuccess competition will run until Oct. 31, 2020, 6:30 p.m. UTC. To learn more and sign up for a chance at one of the top prizes and a top spot on our leaderboard, click here.

Note: This competition was closed on Oct. 31. For other bitgrit AI competitions, check out our website here.
